The Super Bowl delivered one of the funniest, and arguably the most creative, ad we’ve seen in quite some time. We never really imagined seeing Mario and Luigi rapping together, yet here we are. It was genius move, and it definitely got us hyped for the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. On top of an advertisement for their very own plumbing service, Universal Pictures also dropped some new character posters.
These brand new character posters included Bowser wielding a Super Star, Seth Rogen’s Donkey Kong leaping into action, and Toad enjoying a nice scenic walk through a mushroom forest. We also decided to include some our favourite posters because we’re simply too excited. This film seems to be venturing out to various parts of Mario’s vibrant history, and these posters alone capture Mario’s timeless journey beautifully. Just look how great Rainbow Road looks…
The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Charlie Day as Luigi. The cast also includes Jack Black as the villainous Bowser Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Amisen as Cranky Kony, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
This new animated film will be produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously collaborated on theTeen Titans Go! series, will be directing this animated adventure. The screenplay of the film will be written by Matthew Fogel, whose writing credits include The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Illumination’s film Minions: The Rise of Gru.
