Now this is some genius marketing. We all know that it’s during ad breaks in football matches that everyone goes to make a cup of tea. But how about when you block the pipes and realise you need a plumber?
Ahead of tonight’s Super Bowl, Universal Pictures has dropped a brand new TV spot for The Super Mario Bros. Movie which calls back to the day job of the fictional heroes. The short ad pitches itself as an advert for the Mario Bros. Plumbing company and even directs viewers to a real website.
Check out the spot in the player below:
The film stars Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as the villainous Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Amisen as Cranky Kony, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike.
This new animated film will be produced by Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously collaborated on the animated series Teen Titans Go! and the film Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. The screenplay of the film will be written by Matthew Fogel, whose writing credits include The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part and Illumination’s film Minions: The Rise of Gru.
Super Mario Bros. will now premiere exclusively in UK cinemas in April 2023.
