Soldier Stories #1 is published by Image Comics, created by Marc Silvestri.

This special one shot is available now, either direct from Image Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Soldier Stories features four compelling tales of military conflict all written by veterans who served. These first-person accounts of real-life warfare have been re-imagined across a variety of genres from sci-fi to horror to personal memoir. What’s it like to wait out a chemical attack? How does it feel to abandon your allies? In a world of push-button warfare has killing gotten too easy? How do you go on when the war is over but the struggle is not? These are personal stories compelling stories stories that will haunt and surprise you. Because every soldier has a story.

    Review

In this special one shot issue we have a collection of war stories told uniquely and probably not like you’ve seen before. We’ve all heard the stories and seen countless movies based on this fascinating period in history but now thanks to Marc Silvestri bringing this true stories together into comic form and not in the way that you may have first thought. Although the bulk of the content remains some of the stories have retold in a way that so many .kre people will find relatable.

I will admit when I first saw the cover I was excited to get into the book as the World War periods are probably my favourite to learn about, although the stories are still good I didn’t really get the same excitement as some of the stories have been changed almost to make them more comic friendly but I would’ve personally wanted more realism in the story telling itself. Having said that I found the writing engaging and fulfilling creating a uniquely written concept that fans of this era will enjoy. Each story has a different twist but the content is very much there and certainly hits hard and you can tell the content is coming from authentic sources.

The individual stories are all written to a high standard with some great creative talents involved all adding their unique input into the stories.

The illustrations of the stories are again all created with separate creative teams but as a group combine to create art that will bring your imagination to the forefront and visually transporting you to the front line deep into the battle.

    Verdict

A good selection of short stories that bring the stories of veterans to the forefront of this generation, I felt the content could’ve had more realism but on the whole found the comic enjoyable.
