We finally have our first look at Christopher Nolan’s upcoming biopic Oppenheimer. Today, a poster was released that perfectly captures what Oppenheimer will be about- Not that it was difficult to figure out. We also received confirmation that the film will be out this time next year- 21st July, 2023.
Described as the “Father of the atomic bomb”, J. Robert Oppenheimer was a physicist from the University of California who, in the 1940s, altered the course of World War II, and ultimately… Changed the world. As part of the Manhattan Project, Oppenheimer helped develop the first nuclear weapons. The same weapons that were eventually used against Japan in 1945 in Hiroshima (Little Boy) and Nagasaki (Fat Man). It isn’t clear exactly when Oppenheimer will take place, but it’s likely that the film will cover the events revolving around the Manhattan Project, which will include the creation and testing of the atomic bomb.
Given Nolan’s usage of time in many of his biggest hits like Inception, Interstellar, and Tenet, it’ll be interesting to see how Nolan incorporates this theme into a biopic… Especially one that focuses on someone like Oppenheimer who, quite frankly, changed the trajectory of human history.

Now, when we say that the cast for Oppenheimer is stacked. We really mean it. It may just be one of the biggest and most talented cast we’ve ever seen in Hollywood. Where do we start?
Well, for starters, Cillian Murphy will play Oppenheimer- Once again reuniting with Christopher Nolan. Emily Blunt will be playing Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty. Matt Damon will feature as Leslie Groves, who played a key role in the construction of the Pentagon, as well as the Manhattan Project. Iron Man‘s Robert Downey Jr. went through a surprising transformation to embody Leslie Strauss who was on the Atomic Energy Commission. Florence Pugh will also star as Jean Tatlock, a psychiatrist and physician, who has a love affair with Oppenheimer. Benny Safdi is set to portray Edward Teller, who is also known as the “Father of the Hydrogen Bomb”. That’s just the tip of the iceberg…
Oppenheimer‘s star-studded cast also includes Rami Malek, Jack Quaid, Dane DeHaan, Matthew Modine, Alden Ehrenreich, Kenneth Branagh, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Matthias Schweighöfer, as well as countless others.
Variety also reported that Nolan will be working with VFX Studio DNEG once again. This will mark their eighth collaboration together. Andrew Jackson will serve as the visual effects supervisor. Jackson was previously nominated for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road, and later took home the Oscar for best achievement in visual effects for Tenet.
We weren’t lying. The cast and crew behind Nolan’s Oppenheimer is unlike anything we’ve seen. So, Oppenheimer is definitely one to keep on eye out for. With a poster now out in the open, we could receive our very first trailer soon. We’ll be sure to keep you all posted.
Universal Pictures.’ Oppenheimer will arrive exclusively in cinemas on July 21st, 2023.
