Radiant Red #2 is published by Image Comics, written by Cherish Chen and illustrated by Miguel Muerto and David Lafuente.

Issue #2 will be available 6th April 2022 either directly from Image Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

It’s one o’clock on a Thursday morning. Satomi Sone should be at home with her fiancé, in bed, asleep. So why is she in an abandoned warehouse in an empty industrial district? And who—or what—waits for her inside?

    Review

This issue sees the continuation of the story arc of the latest hero from the Radiant multiverse, Radiant Red a reluctant hero who at first began using her powers not for good more using it as a very handy robbery technique to get her much needed bills paid.

Satomi Sone is reluctant to use her powers and wants to put it all in the past behind her and move on with their lives, however someone has other plans and before she knows it Satomi is being put through her paces in some sort of murky abandoned factory, Satomi isn’t clear of the full reasoning but all is about to become clear, offers of a better life could well be on the cards if Satomi agrees, but is this the life she wants?

This issue is laying more of the foundations of what is to come, giving us more of the back story of the characters creating a more in depth story arc and one that is getting more and more exciting as the issues pass.

Cherish Chen brings a fluidity to the writing by laying down a foundation story and building the characters so the reader has more of a connection with each one going forward. Miguel Muerto and David Lafuente have gone with an almost anime style in the illustrations, bold and punchy animation style with bright and dramatic colours creating an overall intense reading experience.

I’m finding this series to be growing in strength as the arc continues as the first two issues have laid strong foundations for what is to come, I have a feeling that this arc has yet to reach it’s peak, the creative team seem to be being careful not to blow the story up too widely too quickly.

    Verdict

The Radiant Black world is beginning to turn into an exciting multiverse of interlocking stories potentially creating something epic. The creative team have once again created an overall intense and full on reading experience and I’m looking forward to see how this develops.
