Batman #122 is published by DC Comics, written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by Howard Porter and Trevor Hairsine.

Issue #122 is available 6th April 2022 either directly from DC Comics online or from your local comic book store, digital copies will be available to download from the usual content providers.

    Synopsis

Ra’s al Ghul is dead, and Talia is out for revenge!Batman is on the case to find Deathstroke before Talia’s elite killers do! But Batman starts to piece together that not everything is what it seems in Ra’s‘ death… and knows whom he must interrogate to get answers… Talia herself! Can the two former lovers ever work together again?

    Review

In this issue of Batman we see the second part of the Shadow War arc that saw the assassination of legendary villain Ra’s Al Ghul by what was thought to be Deathstroke which we then found out that it was actually an imposter shifting the blame and framing Deathstroke, but who was it? Batman is on the hunt to uncover the truth and looking for concrete leads which leads him to visit his once lover Talia who could maybe tell him more of this mysterious situation, he interrogates Talia who gives him answers but personally I don’t feel the full story was told, I have suspicions that something doesn’t feel right.

Robin has left to hunt down Deathstroke and find vengeance to kill his own demons but is he about to walk into something above his control, Batman and Talia must work together to find Deathstroke and Robin before it’s too late and the Elite Killers get there first. This is a game of cat and mouse at epic levels.

Writing a story arc that could shake the iconic DC universe is a tough challenge but a challenge that Joshua Williamson has stepped up to and hit the target with no problem at all, the arc he has created is one that captures your mind and strikes your emotions, I loved how the action packed pages captivated me throughout and the story stayed in my mind even after I finished reading with me trying to solve the mystery in my mind.

The illustrations were sublime, an artistic pairing of Howard Porter and Trevor Hairsine has not only created an epic level masterpiece, each page was delightfully dark with graphic detail that takes hold of your imagination and makes you feel every emotion on the page. The creative team have created a story that is action packed and thought provoking together in the best of combinations.

    Verdict

A blockbuster story which is steadily rocking the DC Universe. Top level writing from Williamson partners with the artistic talents of Porter and Hairsine to create a masterpiece. I’m looking forward to what is to come.
