Legends of Tomorrow season 6 stars Caity Lotz, Dominic Purcell, Nick Zano, Tala Ashe, Matt Ryan, Olivia Swann, Jes Macallan, Adam Tsekhman, Shayan Sobhian, Lisseth Chavez and Raffi Barsoumian. New episodes air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
Synopsis
The Legends are ready to get back home. But after Constantine overloaded Gideon, they will have to travel the old-fashioned way to preserve the ship’s energy. Trying to entertain themselves, tensions start to grow high, so Gary suggests playing a murder mystery game to pass the time. When Constantine decides to make the game more interesting, Behrad becomes worried about him but is met with pushback from Zari. Meanwhile, Mick and Gary deal with an unexpected guest on the Waverider.
Review
The Legends partake in a dangerous board game this week as Constantine’s magic addiction continues to spiral out of control.
After last week’s deep space bowling shenanigans, the Legends are 3 weeks away from Earth (Constantine’s incredibly powerful teleportation spell damaged the ship), the Legends are stuck with very little to do but sit patiently until they are home. This means close quarters with some very distinct personalities. To top this off they must conserve the ships power as the more they use the longer it takes to return to Earth so no video games or TV!
Behrad is also beginning to suspect Constantine and his ‘buzzed’ behaviour of late so starts to go into protective brother mode which pits him against John and some ‘head-butts’ between the two. Zari is obviously ignoring Behrads concerns although how long she can do that for will most likely pop up in the next few weeks. Again, Behrad is not one of my favourite characters but I am liking that he is the only one noticing Constantine’s change in personality!
Gary manages to bring everyone together to play a murder mystery board game but Constantine, relying heavily on his magic potion, pulls the group into the game to liven things up but it quickly takes a dark turn when the team starts to die one by one.
Elsewhere Rory and Gary who were not taken into the game have to deal with an incoming ship with a distress call before finding out it was Kayla, the alien who impregnated Rory and is technically the ex to Gary. This girl is not happy to see them and soon the B story starts to reveal the remaining pieces of the final big bad.
In the game, emotions are running high as the team is dropping one by one and Constantine finds that the monster of the game is in fact a dark version of himself, his inner demon. Zari saves the day and everyone returns to the real world unharmed but Zari does notice John has the same stab mark she gave the monster which will now set her on the same path as Behrad on their concern for him and his erratic behaviour.
Matt Ryan has done what few actors have managed to do and successfully made such an impact within a role that it seems impossible for anyone else to do. His performance throughout this episode was incredible and his fall from grace is heartbreaking. One can hope the Legends can save him from himself before the season ends and that John Constantine of Earth Prime will live to see another crossover.
Verdict
This was a hugely entertaining bottle episode that only this show could get away with, allowing Matt Ryan’s portrayal of Constantine shine through as the falling hero and even giving Behrad some growth as the only member to see the issues at play. With only a handful of episodes left it’s clear which enemy has returned but what he has planned for the Legends remains to be seen.
