Cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell are looking to expand their Code 8 universe with a sequel film. The sequel which has been dubbed as Code 8: Part II will also see the return of Jeff Chan who will direct it. Considering the response for the first crowd-funded film (it raised $2.5 million from more than 35,000 backers), plans for a sequel aren’t a complete surprise especially when you consider the world that the Amells introduced us to.
According to Deadline, the sequel follows a teenage girl who is fighting for justice after her brother is killed by some corrupt police officers. After becoming a target, she enlists the help of an ex-con (Robbie Amell) and his former parnet (Stephen Amell). Together, the group will face the wrath of a police sergeant who will use every tool to prevent his exposure.
Stephen Amell, Robbie, Chan and Chris Paré will also serve as producers.
“There’s nothing better than working with family and friends,” said Robbie Amell. “Code 8 was the embodiment of that. I can’t wait to get back to work on the sequel.”
“Code 8 is an incredibly personal and special project for all of us,” Stephen Amell added. “We built the world in the first one and now we’re ready to blow it out!”
As huge fans of the first film, and as an official backer, we can’t wait to see what happens in this sequel. Code 8 opened many potential doors so we’re glad that the cousins are taking the opportunity to explore a different avenue.
