According to Deadline, Captain Marvel 2 has just found its latest cast member in the form of Velvet Buzzsaw’s Zawe Ashton, who, according to sources, will play a villain in this Marvel production.
Ashton was most recently seen opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw. She first greeted our screens with her role in the TV series Fresh Meat. She was also recently seen on Broadway in the revival of Betrayal opposite Marvel star Tom Hiddleston.
Ashton is the latest new cast member to go into Captain Marvel 2, and she joins an already anticipated and exciting cast and crew, with Nia DaCosta, director of the Candyman reboot (that has currently been delayed due to COVID-19). As well as this, we will also see Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel after her debut solo series alongside Teyonah Parris, who we are already seeing portray Monica Rambeau in the Disney+ series Wandavision.
While Disney and Marvel Studios have no comment on the exact character that Ashton will play, sources say she will be the main villain. However, with the upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion being said to play into the Captain Marvel 2 events there is always a chance that another antagonist may remain hidden till the very end of the film, or that there is a bigger threat.
For now, we can only guess who she will portray. Leader of the Skrull empire, princess Anelle? Member of the Shi’ar species, Deathbird? Or perhaps one of Captain Marvel’s most infamous villains, Moonstone, who similar to Carol Danvers got her powers and abilities from Kree technology.
