You know, after watching all of the Fast & Furious movies I somehow expected myself to be sat in my chair writing this exact article. As the stunts became more flamboyant and the Laws of Physics discarded like unwanted rubbish, I knew this day would come. Fast 9 is heading to space.
Looking back at the very first movie, back in 2001, it is hard to believe that “Space” and “Fast & Furious” can even make sense in the same sentence. However, looking at how the series has progressed… it is safe to say that everyone expected this.
Fast 9 has already thrown a lot at us. First it was delayed, then Han comes back from the dead (14 years later), Toretto has a brother. But the icing on the cake was Ludacris sparking rumors about the franchise going to space. It seems as though Michelle Rodriguez has confirmed that the franchise will be blasting off to outer space.
Check out what Rodriguez had to say:
“Oh, no way. How did you guys find that out? See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man. When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out. Nobody was supposed to know that…Oh, well, no, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not lucky enough to hit space, but we did get a female writer and showed a lot of love, I think, on this one. Thanks to…Justin Lin. We were able to, to find a little bit more attention and love for the girls in the movie. And so I’m really hopeful that that, that shows through in the final product.”
This could be a ploy to get people talking about Fast 9 but my gut says this is legit. After the massive technological jumps the franchise has made, particularly in Hobbs & Shaw, it makes sense that space is the next step. Well, it makes sense but it also doesn’t make sense… you know what I mean.
Regardless of what happens, we are very excited to see how they handle it. I’m willing to bet that Toretto has a floating fist fight in space with his brother and they both remove their helmets… and survive.
Fast 9 is set to hit cinemas in April 2020 and stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Anna Sawai, John Cena, Michael Rooker, Helen Mirren, and Charlize Theron.
