HBO has given the green light to start filming a series adaptation of the massively popular computer game The Last of Us, co written by Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin and the games writer and creative director Neil Druckmann.
HBO and Sony Pictures TV are producing the series alongside PlayStation Productions, Word Games and the games developers Naughty Dog.
The Last of Us series is set 20 years after modernisation is wiped out, it focuses mainly on Joel a battle hardened survivor of the apocalypse who smuggles out a 14 year old girl named Ellie out of the quarantine zone, what should’ve been an easy job turns into a life changing and brutal journey which sees the two characters become a team and work through the struggles.
Mazin and Druckmann are set to executive produce The Last of Us series along with Carolyn Strauss (Chernobyl, Game of Thrones), Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells and PlayStation Productions’ Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Original Director Johan Renck (Chernobyl) had to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
There is no mention of release date as yet but we are keeping our eyes peeled for this one.
