“BLUDHAVEN” part two! They call themselves the Run-Offs! And now, this group of villains that Batman and Nightwing ran out of Gotham City plan to do the same to the former Boy Wonder! But can he find the serial killer terrorizing the city before the Run-Offs catch up with him?

Pickup your copy of ‘Nightwing’ #11 at Comixology now!

This Blüdhaven introductory story isn’t turning out quite like I had expected. After the previous issue (reviewed here) I had entirely expected this story would go down the route of making Dick Grayson confront past enemies in a new setting.

Instead what Tim Seeley is doing is forcing Dick to face up to the consequences of apprehending those criminals… in a new setting.

Admittedly I quite like the twist. Seeing Dick fully prepare himself to face off against these Z-list characters only to turn things on its head is quite interesting. Instead of feeling like Groundhog Day it feels like a new one.

The move to Blüdhaven was to help Dick progress as a character and it is doing exactly that.

Outside of the Run-Offs there is still more story to explore. Whilst we don’t understand who is pulling the strings behind the string of crimes I’m inclined to believe the marketing team behind the city have something to do with it.

If this cast of Run-Offs are to become supporting players for Dick’s time in Blüdhaven then there’s still a fair amount of development required. The foundations of an interesting setting are there but the story needs more time to bed in before it can become truly compelling.

The art in this issue is completely on par with the last. There are some interesting costumes amongst the Run-Offs but it’s still the city of Blüdhaven itself which stands out as the most interesting character in the book.

I do like that ‘Nightwing’ is carving out a niche for itself in terms of its aesthetic though. I hope it continues.

    Verdict

‘Nightwing’ #11 is the standard part 2 of the Blüdhaven story. It pushes the narrative a little further with some interesting character developments. A solid read.
