Last night it was the turn of Marvel Studios to take over Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con for a star-studded presentation. Most of the Avengers: Doomsday cast were on hand, including a couple of extras, to present more footage from the December release in front of a packed crowd of fans.
On hand to celebrate the December 18 release were Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, James Marsden, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, Lewis Pullman, Kelsey Grammer, Danny Ramirez, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Rebecca Romijn, Tenoch Huerta. But they were also joined by a long-rumoured addition to the cast who was left out from the now infamous chair reveal… Hayley Atwell!
Atwell confirmed Peggy Carter’s return for Doomsday but remained coy about how she might factor into the story. Whilst we’ve seen Steve Rogers with a baby in footage released so far there are plenty of rumours about Captain Carter also making an appearance in the film.
The crowd was surprised when a question came from a grey-suited Deadpool who turned out to be star Ryan Reynolds in disguise. Though the suit has never been seen on screen before it appears to be inspired by Deadpool’s appearance in the X-Force comics. Reynolds played the moment as a fan cosplaying, giving a fake name: “My name is Ricky, that’s a mononym, like Cher or Madonna, and I’m just cosplaying hard”.
Reynolds threw a question at Paul Rudd: “Where’s Thor and why was he crying?” in a nod to the Deadpool & Wolverine scene where Thor is seen holding a dying Deadpool. Rudd shot back that Thor’s “a Wrexham fan,” ribbing Reynolds’ real-life ownership of the football club.
Finally, in a nod to his long-rumoured appearance in Doomsday, Reynolds asked the Russo brothers directly whether there was room for any last-minute additions to the cast, essentially pitching himself for a role, and asked “when do you start filming?”
Attendees were also treated to a second trailer for Doomsday, arriving less than a week after the first trailer. Though the second trailer hasn’t been released online we do have a detailed description of the footage which was shown.
The trailer opens on Victor Von Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) sitting on a throne as Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm explains in voiceover how he’s broken as a person. “Victor was always the smartest guy in the room. He used to be different,” she states in a grave tone. It’s clear that she and the rest of the Fantastic Four — particularly Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards — already know Doom and have a complicated past with him. “Everything he loved was taken from him,” she explains.
From there the trailer is intersperseds quick shots of the sprawling cast, including Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Panther (Letitia Wright), Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Cyclops (James Marsden), Magneto (Ian McKellen), Gambit (Channing Tatum) and more. There’s a shot of a destroyed New York City that’s reduced to only rubble, with Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards angrily demanding if Victor is responsible for the carnage.
Doom is heard saying, “All of you have lived stolen lives.” Thor confronts Doom but the villain catches his magical hammer and throws it aside easily. Doom uses his magic powers to throw Thor aside and raises an army of Sentinel robots — the iconic androids from the “X-Men” movies — from the ground.
We’ll have to wait and see if this trailer eventually gets an official release but it will likely be some time yet given we only just saw the first trailer earlier this week.

The film will release exclusively in cinemas 18th December, 2026. The film will be available in INFINITY VISION – a new certification for Premium Large Format (PLF) cinemas.
