Last night Supergirl wrapped up it’s third season with an action-packed finale. Kara finally took down Reign in battle but it was not without its consequences.
Borrowing aspects from Superman: The Movie the finale saw several characters killed off. Seeing the devastation around here Kara used black Kryptonite to travel in time and make a second attempt. But in the closing moments of the episode several of those death still left us with characters departures.
Executive Producer Robert Rovner confirmed during an interview with TV Line that Chris Wood (Mon-El) would not be returning for the fourth season.
“The plan for Chris was always to have him on the show for two years… We’ve loved telling Mon-El’s story, as well as the story we’ve told for him and Kara. We hope the fans felt that it was a satisfying conclusion.”
Though the door has been left open for Chris it seems that right now Mon-El’s story is done. “We love working with Chris, so we’d love to have Mon-El back someday if the story takes us there and if Chris is available,” Rovner said.
Wood is not the only cast member to exit the series in some capacity. Odette Annable will also exit the series (for now) as Sam/Reign. The character joined at the beginning of series 3 as the Reign arc began. Speak of Odette the producers said:
“We hope not. We love Odette. She was amazing in this dual role, playing different characters. We fell in love with her as Sam and we were terrified of her as Reign. If it works out, we’d love to have her back for a few episodes next season.”
As if those two losses were not enough it was confirmed last week that Jeremy Jordan (Winn) would not be a regular cast member in season 4. Last nights finale saw Winn officially join the Legion and head in to the future to help in their mission against Braniac.
Though Jordan is set to recur next season in the world of Supergirl that often leads to only a small number of future appearances much like Calista Flockhart.
Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist, David Harewood, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh and Jeremy Jordan. The series airs on The CW in North America and here on Sky One.
