Gotham City Sirens

Here we go again… ‘Gotham City Sirens’ is still happening

First it was happening, then it wasn’t announced at SDCC but still happening, then it wasn’t happening and now… we’re confused. But it would appear that Gotham City Sirens is still in development at Warner Bros.

After all the noise this week regarding a rumoured Joker/Harley Quinn film an ‘insider’ from WB has spoken with Forbes about what’s going on.

First up is either a presumption about the Joker/Harley films title or some insider info but the project is now being referred to as Mad Love. A reference to the BTAS episode and subsequent graphic novel which filled in the blanks on the Harley origin and her relationship with Mistah J.

That project is being eyed as a way to bring their relationship to an end freeing up the Harley character to team with Catwoman and Ivy in Gotham City Sirens.

The WB inside is quoted as saying ‘Harley, Catwoman and Poison Ivy are super important to us– And a super cool team, too!’

Perhaps rather than cancelling projects WB and DC Films are just putting their ducks in order to give each of the characters a proper ongoing storyline. Exploring Harley and her origin story in Suicide Squad then moving to her relationship in Mad Love and on to Gotham City Sirens.

What do you think of this latest twist in the tale?

Gotham by Gaslight

‘Gotham by Gaslight’ preview hits

We’ve known since the packing previews for Batman and Harley Quinn were released that the next DC Comics animated film would be an adaptation of Gotham by Gaslight. The Brian Augustyn and Mike Mignola comic was originally released back in 1989 (a good year for Bat-fans) and spawn a 1991 sequel Master of the Future.

Having ventured in to the domain on magic with Justice League Dark this is the DCAU’s first foray in to the plethora of Elseworlds stories using DC Comics characters. The near 8 minute preview is available in the player below!

Gotham by Gaslight is written by James Krieg and executive produced by Bruce Timm. The voice cast includes Jennifer Carpenter as Catwoman, no other casting announcements have been made as yet. The film is due in late 2017/early 2018.

Is Boom Studios updating the MMPR team?

For over fifteen issues Boom Studios Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series has focussed on the series original team. The team of Jason, Billy, Zack, Trini, Kimberley and Tommy have been through a lot as the series has focused on new stories rather than adapting episodes of the TV series.

Now a variant cover for the twenty-first issue of the series has given us a look at a different version of the team. Though the characters are not mentioned in the synopsis the image below clearly shows Rocky, Adam and Aisha taking the places of Jason, Billy and Trini.

Fans of the series will remember the change taking place part way through the second season of the TV series. Is it time for the comics to follow suit? Check out the synopsis for the issue, due for release in November, below!

Obi-Wan

There’s an Obi-Wan film on the way and we might know where it’s set…

Whilst the cameras are still rolling on the Han Solo film it appears that the next stage in the Star Wars saga has been unveiled. Rumours from The Hollywood Reporter claim that Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry is in talks with Disney/Lucasfilm to helm the film.

Well today Omega Underground has revealed the films working title as Joshua Tree. The site believes this is in reference to Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. The park could be used as a filming location for the movie and if it is well it certainly bares a striking resemblance to Tattooine.

Ewan McGregor famously starred as Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequels and earlier this year he expressed an interest in returning to the role. Could we be about to see what happened to Obi-Wan between Episodes 3 and 4?

Margot Robbie and Jared Leto in 'Suicide Squad'

Is the Joker and Harley movie replacing ‘Gotham City Sirens’?

The DC Extended Universe rumours continue. We’ve just brought you stories on Joker and The Batman well now it’s Gotham City Sirens turn to go through the gossip rags.

First up the film was the films lack of inclusion at the SDCC 2017 Warner Bros. panel. Though David Ayer commented on the film separately at comic con fans were worried that the writing was on the wall. Next came news from The Hollywood Reporter that Margot Robbie and Jared Leto were re-teaming for a Joker & Harley Quinn movie.

Today The Tracking Board are reporting that Joker & Harley is setup to replace Sirens on the DCEU release schedule. The site reports it is most likely Ayer and Warner Bros. have parted ways and notes that whichever of the films makes it to production won’t be doing so until after Suicide Squad 2.

It seems Warner Bros. and DC Films are not quite sure which direction to take the pair in but certainly want to capitalise of their popularity. Where would you like to see the pair turn up next?

Batman

So ‘The Batman’ IS part of the DCEU after all…

It has been a wild 24 hours for the DC Extended Universe. Between the rumours of a solo Joker movie, to more news of Ben Affleck’s supposed lack of involvement there’s been a lot to contend with.

Yesterday comments flew around the internet from director Matt Reeves claiming that his Batman film will not be part of the DC Extended Universe. Batman-News.com can catch you up on the original story. Well now Reeves himself has taken to twitter to clear up his own comments.

In a series of posts this evening the writer/director clarifies what any of us with a level head had expected all along: The Batman will be part of the universe it’s just not a Justice League story.

So there you have it. Whilst Reeves doesn’t touch on Affleck’s involvement or lack thereof at least we know where the films stands in terms of setting!

Pepper Potts

Looks like Pepper Potts is back in new Avengers 4 set pics

After being suspiciously absent from Avengers: Age of Ultron it looks like Pepper Potts is making a comeback! Rumours have swirled for a number of years that actress Gwyneth Paltrow was priced out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after her initial multi-picture deal was up.

Rumours continued to circle the web after she was unceremoniously written out of Ultron having taken a break from her relationship with Tony Stark.

Fans of the character were elated to find she popped up briefly during Spider-Man: Homecoming this summer. Now it seems that appearance was a precursor to much more!

Twitter account Atlanta Filming happened to snap some shots of the actress on set with Robert Downey Jnr filming scenes for Avengers 4.

Joker

Is there a solo Joker movie on the way?

Add this one to the list of DCEU announcements you had never expected…

We’ve known for a whilst that David Ayer and Margot Robbie are working together on a Gotham City Sirens film. Although it didn’t form part of the SDCC announcement reel Ayer has publicly stated that work continues on the film.  Well today Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. are also working on a solo Joker film. But there’s a catch…

The report states that Warner Bros. and DC Comics are also working on a series of films to be set OUTSIDE of the DCEU. This opens up the potential for a series of Elseworlds tales on film which could be very interesting. Deadline go on to state that the film will not star Jared Leto as it will be set outside of the universe and time period of the current DCEU.

The films currently being masterminded by writer/director Todd Phillips with input by none other than Martin Scorsese acting as producer. With Warner aiming for a gangster Gotham City circa-1980’s his previous work should come in handy!
