We finally have more details on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Oppenheimer biopic! After recently being bought by Universal Pictures, the studio has announced that the acclaimed director’s next movie will hit cinemas on Friday, 21st July 2023 with the rumors of Cillian Murphy playing Robert J. Oppenheimer being confirmed.
Along with a release date and casting announcement, cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema (filmed Dunkirk and TENET) will be reuniting with Nolan to film his twelfth feature film and will be shooting the film on a combo of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format cameras, while TENET composer Ludwig Göransson will also be returning to work with the director. Another person returning to work with Christopher Nolan is Jennifer Lame – the editor of TENET. The film is rumored to be a massive awards contender for Universal but we shall see how that turns out once the movie debuts in cinemas in the summer of 2023.
The studio has also agreed to give Nolan a 100-day theatrical exclusive window. This means it cannot debut on streaming or home video for over three months after it has been released in cinemas. This shows great confidence from Universal and with a one-hundred million dollar budget, this will be their biggest movie to release that summer.
We will keep you posted once more news is announced for this project.
