Well, we didn’t see this coming. Deadline, Variety, and THR are reporting that Alfred Molina is returning to the Spider-Verse as Otto Octavius- Doctor Octopus. According to the reports, Doc Ock is set to appear in the upcoming third installment of Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise. The currently unnamed film has simply been dubbed Spider-Man 3. However, it is safe to assume that the word “Home” will play some role in the official title.
Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock appeared in the second Spider-Man movie starring Toby Maguire. The 2004 superhero sequel showcased the iconic villain as a clever yet conflicted professor. In the climax of the movie, Octavius redeems himself by making the ultimate sacrifice. As his arms gradually died, Otto sank and seemingly drowned.
This report suggests that Otto somehow survived. Of course, it is currently unclear how Otto will be back if the reports are indeed true. Could he return during the events of Spider-Man 2? Or perhaps he cheated death and returned to his villainous ways.
Of course, he won’t be the only villain to reappear. Back in October, it was reported that Jamie Foxx would be returning as Electro from Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
