Add this one to the ‘news no-one was expecting’ pile… Judge Dredd is returning to our screens. EW has broken the news of the new series entitled Judge Dredd: Mega-City One today and brought us a first look poster. The character was last seen on the big screen in 2012’s Dredd starring Karl Urban in the lead role. Though the film disappointed at the box office it picked up a huge cult following who have continued to demand a sequel to this very day.
Little is known about the project at the moment aside from that it is planned to shoot in the UK. No casting announcements as yet. The project is a joint venture between production company IM Global and UK based indie-games company Rebellion.
A short synopsis for the series has also been released:
The show is set in a future where the East Coast of the U.S. has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. It will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges – futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner – as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd century throws at them.
We’ll continue to keep you updated on the project as news comes in.
