Comic book writer extraordinaire Brian Michael Bendis has announced that he is currently developing a Legion of Super Heroes animated series for HBO Max. The writer made the announcement on his substack yesterday.
Bendis, who has worked extensively with the Legion in the pages of DC Comics, shared that during a meeting with HBO Max execs he was asked if there was a particular DC property he would like to develop in to a series. “I may have yelled the word LEGION louder than you want to in a normal adult person business meeting,” shared Bendis.
Bendis goes on to say that the series is a long way off, but does explain that current plans are that the animated series would be aimed at a more adult audience. It’s also safe to say that conceptually the series will be based on Bendis’ own run on the series on which he worked with artist Ryan Sook.
The Legion first appeared in the pages of DC back in 1958. Bendis’ run heavily featured Jon Kent, aka Superboy, after he travelled to the future to join the Legion. Characters from across the Legion universe have also appeared on The CW in Supergirl and other so-called Arrowverse series.
