When last we heard new on the Tomb Raider sequel, director Misha Green was teasing fans with a potential title. Now the film’s star, Alicia Vikander, has offered an update whilst speaking with Collider.
The project had previously set Amy Jump to pen the screenplay with husband and frequent collaborator Ben Wheatley onboard to direct. At that time production was set to being in early 2020. Following Covid-related delays Wheatley exited the MGM production and was replaced by Lovecraft Country helmer Misha Green.
“Pre-COVID, I would’ve said yes,” said Vikander on the film’s readiness to start production. “And now I think it’s a yes still. It’s not greenlit, but the script is in the making, and I think everyone is excited and I would love to revisit Lara again.”
Vikander was open that she is currently unaware of what Green has in store for the legendary tomb raider but expressed her excitement to return to the character.
“It’s very recent,” continued Vikander. “It’s really now when the world is up and running again [that the script is being written], and Misha is onboard and she’s working on the script right now. So I’m very excited to sort of read something very soon.”
Tomb Raider 2 currently has no official release date.
