In an effort to avoid spoilers Marvel and director Taika Waititi went to a lot of trouble to ‘fix’ scenes from both Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War.
Beware there are major spoilers ahead!
In the climactic battle with Hela in Thor: Ragnarok the God of Thunder lost an eye. By the films climax the character is seen wearing an eye patch very similar to that of his father, Odin. Scenes from that films second trailer were edited to show Thor with both eyes.
The Avengers: Infinity War trailer which was shown at SDCC back in Summer was also amended to hide the spoilers. Thor is seen in the trailers opening crashing in to the ship flown by the Guardians of the Galaxy. In that and subsequent scenes Chris Hemsworth is seen in character with both eyes in tact.
Now it’s fair to say there is enough technology in the galaxy that his eye could have been fixed. However in a new interview with EW both Hemsworth and Ragnarok director Taika Waititi have addressed the situation going forwards.
“That kind of just evolved just throughout the script process, to just keep stripping that character down, having him lose the hammer and all those things and to kind of create a broken version of the character. At the end, he sort of becomes a refugee.” – Taika Waititi
“Yeah we carry it into the film with the eye patch you see in this film.” – Chris Hemsworth
