The Predatorhas opening in North America with the lowest box office tally for any film opening in over 4,000 theatres. That news, courtesy of BoxOfficeMojo, coming amidst the films on going controversy surrounding the inclusion of a registered sex offender in a now deleted scene.
With $24M in the bank the film was able to top the North American box office but with a disappointing “C+” CinemaScore from its audience the film is unlikely to have legs. It may struggle to recoup its $88M estimated production budget. Current predictions put the film at making $50M at the domestic box office.
Internationally, The Predator has opened in 72 markets taking an estimated $30.7M. Russia led the pack with an estimated $4.7M followed by the UK ($3.1M) and Thailand ($1.1M). The film continues its international rollout with 11 further markets this week.
