After debuting in one of the smaller rooms at the convention Star Trek: Discovery descended on Hall H today.
With a panel which could only be described a roaring success the cast and crew were on hand to promote the shows return.
Sadly that return will not take place until 2019 but there’s plenty to tide us over in the meantime (more on that below). For now here is the first trailer for the shows second season!
During the panel it was announced by new showrunner Alex Kurtzman that later this year a series of shorts will be premiere via CBS All Access.
Those shorts will exist within the lore of Star Trek: Discovery but will explore different aspects from the main story.
Each short will consist of a stand-alone story and will run 10-15 minutes in length. This serves as an opportunity for deeper storytelling and exploration of key characters and themes that fit into the rapidly expanding world of Star Trek.
Announced today: Rainn Wilson will return to play Harry Mudd in a short he will also direct, and Aldis Hodge will star in another as Craft, a man who finds himself the only human on board a deserted ship. Additional episodes will delve in to Saru’s history as the first Kelpien to join Starfleet, and Tilly’s friendship with an unlikely partner.
Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns to television 50 years after it first premiered with STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. The series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers. The series will premiere on the CBS Television Network with all subsequent episodes available on CBS All Access, the Network’s digital subscription video on demand and live streaming service, and will be distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media’s Space channel and OTT service CraveTV.
Star Trek: Discovery is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout, Bryan Fuller’s Living Dead Guy Productions and Roddenberry Entertainment. Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller, Heather Kadin, Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts, Akiva Goldsman, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serve as executive producers.
