It’s been a great weekend for ‘Star Trek’ fans with the release of a new poster for upcoming film ‘Star Trek Beyond’ but also the premiere of the second trailer for the film!

A few weeks ago we brought you news of the special ‘Star Trek’ fan event taking place on the Paramount Pictures lot in the US. Well that event brought a whole slew of news for ‘Star Trek Beyond’ but also some great poignant moments for longtime trek fans.

Studio executives have officially renamed the road outside the famed soundstage where the original ‘Star Trek’ series was shot, the road is now named Leonard Nimoy Way. It’s a fitting tribute to one of the most famous actors ever to lend their talents to the franchise which turns 50 this year.

Fans were treated to a couple of scenes from the July 22 release ‘Star Trek Beyond’ both of which fleshed out moments from the trailer which was also screened.

If you haven’t had chance to see the trailer yet check it out in the player below:

The first trailer for the film (watch it here!) was heavily criticised for making the film feel a lot more like recent successful Marvel film ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. This new trailer however paints a much more modern-Trek nature for the film. There are lots of character moments but also some heavy action sequences. It seems that ‘Star Trek Beyond’ may just see the end of the NCC-1701 ship.

Here’s our gallery of screen shots from the trailer!

Justin Lin directs ‘Star Trek Beyond’ with a script written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung. The film stars Chris Pine as Captain James T Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, John Cho as Sulu, Anton Yelchin as Chekov, Karl Urban as Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy and Simon Pegg as Scotty. The film was also start Idris Elba as Krall, Sofia Boutella as Jaylah and Deep Roy as Keenser. ‘Star Trek Beyond’ is produced by J.J. Abrams and features a score by Michael Giacchino.
