Ruby Rose is the Arrowverse BATWOMAN

Ruby Rose - The CW

The CW has found it’s Batwoman! Announced earlier this evening by multiple sources Orange is the New Black star Ruby Rose will be taking on the role of Kate Kane.

The Kate Kane version of the character, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet—in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

The CW itself confirmed the news via the social media accounts of its various DCTV shows.

DC Comics themselves jumped on the news with a piece announcing Rose and giving a brief history of the character in the comics:

Rose will be making her first appearance in the role during this years huge DCTV crossover episodes. Those episodes are said to at least partially take place on the streets of Gotham where we will meet Kane.

Executive Producer Greg Berlanti is also developing a solo Batwoman series for the network. During a recent TCA press conference CW President Mark Pedowitz confirmed that if all goes well the show will film a pilot at mid-season.

Welcome to the DC Universe Ruby!
