9th JAN: Another great weekend at the box office has seen ‘Rogue One’ pull in another $21.97M in the US. Holding on to the top spot by only $200,000 that makes a fourth straight week leading the pack.
Its US domestic total is currently sitting at $447.2M.
Internationally the film has now grossed $437.1M for a global total of $914.3M. The film is now expected to cross $1B this week!
29th DEC: ‘Rogue One’ continues to dominate both the domestic and international markets. Having topped $600M the film is now closing in on $650M ahead of its third weekend. Most likely the film will cross $700M by Monday 2nd Jan.
The film is currently sitting at $342.4M at the domestic box office. With little competition due in the next couple of weeks it will easily hold on to the top spot.
The remaining $273.5M comes from international markets where it continues to dominate. Currently ‘Rogue One’ is the 11th highest grossing film of the year globally and the 10th highest grossing internationally.
Globally the box office is currently $615.9M.
ORIGINAL STORY: It’s that time again. Time for another box office celebratory thread. This time we’re taking a closer look at ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ which was released last week.
We will be using this thread to keep a close eye on the films numbers both at home and abroad.
The numbers are in and Disney will be celebrating today as ‘Rogue One’ bowed with approximately $155M in the US based on a $71M Thursday preview/Friday; a $46.25M Saturday and $37.75M Sunday. Final numbers are due overnight tonight.
$155M takes the record for the second highest December opening in the US. The highest December opening weekend of all-time? ‘The Force Awakens’. In other words ‘Rogue One’ is in good company with its nearby cousin.
Internationally ‘Rogue One’ scored the fourth highest December opening weekend of all time. Sitting ahead of the Disney/Lucasfilm release are:
- ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ ($281M)
- ‘Avatar’ ($164.5M)
- ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ ($138M)
The film took a final tally of $134.9M for a global haul of approximately $290.5M. Not bad for an opening weekend. ‘Rogue One’ was never expected to open with the numbers of ‘The Force Awakens’ but it will be interesting to see how where the film ends up when all is said and done.
