Very strange news has broken overnight. Several high profile sources are reporting that Mel Gibson is being courted by Warner Bros. to direct ‘Suicide Squad 2’!
The news was first reported by Deadline as an aside to a story about his work with Paramount Pictures. THR followed suit with an article stating their sources had heard Gibson was ‘familiarising himself with the material’.
Variety added fuel to the fire but noted that Ruben Fleischer (‘Zombieland’), Daniel Espinosa (‘Safe House’), and Jonathan Levine (‘Warm Bodies’) are also in early talks for taking on the job.
DCEU fans are most likely familiar with comments Gibson made about ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ in the press. In an interview with Deadline last year the topic of big budget films came up. Upon hearing that ‘Batman v Superman’ cost a weighty $250M Gibson said the following.
‘And it’s a piece of shit… I’m not interested in the stuff. Do you know what the difference between real superheroes and comic-book superheroes is? Real superheroes didn’t wear spandex. So I don’t know. Spandex must cost a lot.’
‘Suicide Squad 2’ has not been officially announced and has no release date.
