Marvel’s Iron Fist has been cancelled by Netflix following the release of its second season. Following a lacklustre response to the first season showrunner Scott Buck was replaced by Raven Metzner for season 2. The episode order was also cut from thirteen episodes to ten.
Marvel and Netflix announced the cancellation in a joint statement released via Deadline.
“Marvel’s Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix, Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We’re thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we’ve shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the ImmortalIron Fist will live on.”
Deadline is reporting that Marvel wanted the show to continue but that a deal couldn’t be reached. With Disney in the process of setting up its own streaming service there’s a chance the show could be resurrected there.
Star Finn Jones reacted to the news on his instagram with a post thanking the cast and crew of the series.
Iron Fist seasons 1 and 2 are available on Netflix now.
Iron Fist Season 2 stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Sacha Dhawan as Davos, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, Simone Missick Misty Knight and introduces Alice Eve as Mary Walker.
