With NYCC currently going strong today has brought us what will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of convention… the first trailer for Saban’s ‘Power Rangers’!
In typical teaser style the trailer brings us looks at all the rangers out of their costumes. There’s brief glimpses of Rita and a possible modern version of school bully Bulk. What’s missing? Zordon, Alpha 5, the Zords and even the Rangers in full costume!
Clocking in at over two minutes long the trailer includes clips which seem to be from the first act of the film following the Rangers as they get their powers. It seems the film will focus on Zack and his troubles which bring him to Angel Grove High and in to the lives of the other heroes. There’s definitely a sense that each character will have their own issues to deal with in the story much like in the original show.
What is most impressive about this trailer is the tone. It’s expectedly more serious than the TV series but there’s a strong sense of grounded action adventure. You can see the trailer in the player below, let us know in the comments what you thought of it!
Due in cinemas March 24, 2017 the film is being directed by Dean Israelite, the script is written by John Gatins, Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, and Max Landis.
The cast includes Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, R J Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger, and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa.
