UPDATE: Studio estimates on Sunday are forecasting that ‘TMNT‘ will take $65M at the domestic box office over the weekend, with an additional $28.7M from overseas openings the franchise reboot looks set for a worldwide opening weekend of $93.7M.
The domestic total sets the film up as the fourth biggest opening weekend for August behind ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘The Bourne Ultimatum‘ and ‘Rush Hour 2‘.
A sequel to ‘TMNT‘ has now been lined up for release on 3rd June 2016. No word yet on whether Liebesman will return to direct but expect this new big-screen franchise to continue.

Great news for fans of the ninja turtles as the new film directed by Jonathan Liebesman and produced by Michael Bay opened in the us on Thursday night taking $4.6M followed by a further $22M on Friday.
Paramount Pictures had publicly stated they hoped for an opening weekend in the high $40M bracket but forecasters now expect the film to reach a weekend gross closer to $60M.
