If recent rumours are to be believed Warner Bros. are taking their DC Animated Universe to new highs in 2019. Rise of the Supermen is hitting cinemas for one night only next week. Justice Leave vs. The Fatal Five arrives in spring with Batman: Hush also due later this year.
Rumours earlier in the week also point to Warner Bros. working on an adaption of the critically acclaimed Batman: The Long Halloween.
Now Revenge of the Fans is carrying a report that another critically acclaimed DC novel is on its way to animation. Superman: Red Son is rumoured to be in development with Warner Bros. Animation.
Voice casting for the movie includes DC veterans Amy Acker, Diedrich Bader, Jim Ward, Jason Isaacs, Jason Spisak, Phil Lamar and of course Tara Strong. Though no word on who anyone will be voicing as yet.
Shortly after the exclusive was posted on RotF Diedrich Bader tweeted his excitement at being part of the cast of this movie. The tweet was removed shortly thereafter.
Superman: Red Son is an Elseworlds tale which retells the origin of Superman if his Kryptonian craft crashed landed in Russia rather than America.
The official synopsis reads:
Imagine a reality where the world’s most powerful super-being does not grow up in Smallville, Kansas – or even America, for that matter…
SUPERMAN: RED SON is a vivid tale of Cold War paranoia, that reveals how the ship carrying the infant who would later be known as Superman lands in the midst of the 1950s Soviet Union. Raised on a collective, the infant grows up and becomes a symbol to the Soviet people, and the world changes drastically from what we know – bringing Superman into conflict with Batman, Lex Luthor and many others.”
The graphic novel was written by Mark Millar with artwork by Dave Johnson and Killian Plunkett.
