Another weekend has drawn to a close and box office estimations are in. whilst Detective Pikachu was unable to dethrone Avengers: Endgame at the box office it has still opened with an estimated $161M worldwide.
Whilst Endgame made an estimated $62M in North America this week, Pikachu came in with a hugely respectable $58M. That’s a little over the $50-55M estimates of box office trackers ahead of the weekend.
That figure is made up of $20.6M on Friday, $20.4M on Saturday and a further $16.8M on Sunday.
The movie has landed with a hugely respectable “A-” CinemaScore which is also a high for a computer game adaption.
Detective Pikachu is resonating well with audiences outside America. According to BoxOfficeMojo the Warner Bros. release has amassed around $102M across the weekend. The film actually has a running total of $112.4M internationally after opening in Japan last weekend where it has brought in nearly $13M so far.
China leads the pack with $41M. Additional openings include UK ($6.6M), Germany ($5.0M), Mexico ($4.97M), France ($4.8M), Australia ($3.5M), Korea ($3.2M), Italy ($2.8M), Spain ($2.2M), Indonesia ($2.14M) and Taiwan ($2.06M). The next major market release is Russia where the film will open on May 16.
