Warner Bros. has a huge reason to celebrate this weekend as Aquaman has crossed $1bn at the worldwide box office!
In North America Aquaman has been dethroned by STXFilms’s The Upside. Its box office fell 44% from last weekend to gross a further $17M. The Upside took the top spot with $19M. Aquaman‘s North American gross is now around $278.8M.
Internationally Jame Wan’s underwater adventure took a further $27.8M this weekend. Its international total is now an impressive $732.4M. With Japan the only remaining market left to open there’s still every chance the film will climb higher.
All that means that Aquaman has now become only the third movie based on a DC property to cross $1bn. With a current total of $1.02bn it has now surpassed the lifetime gross of Chris Nolan’s The Dark Knight. All that remains is crossing over The Dark Knight Rises $1.08bn for it to become the highest grossing DC Comics movie of all time.
