Whilst the DCEU rides high on the positive buzz of Wonder Woman its future has been dealt a blow this week. Director Doug Liman has departed from Justice League Dark. Variety reports that Liman exited the project over scheduling issues with his new Lionsgate production Chaos Walking which is set to star Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming).
Liman signed on to the project in August of 2016 after exiting another comic book film. Gambit. Prior to his involvement in the film Justice League Dark, then known as Dark Universe, was under the watchful eye of Guillermo Del Toro.
Of course the timing of shifting the project to be called Justice League Dark couldn’t have been better timed. Earlier this week Universal Pictures announced a slate of new monster movies to follow 2017’s The Mummy which will be released under the banner of Dark Universe.
Warner Bros. are said to already by in talks with new potential directors but no news on frontrunners as yet.
