This year Star Wars will bring the Skywalker-saga to a close with the release of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. After that movie’s release the franchise will be taking a breather with no releases set until 2022.
Now Disney CEO Bob Iger has given some clues as to where the franchise will be going next. During a conference calls at the 6th Annual Moffett-Nathanson Media and Communications Summit (via ComicBookMovie) Iger is said to have confirmed the next Star Wars movie will be masterminded by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
When rumours first surfaced that Benioff and Weiss were working on Star Wars it was believed they were masterminding a new trilogy. Whilst we have no confirmation of that, this news from Iger could confirm the beginning of a whole new saga for the franchise.
With a planned 2022 release we could see production on the untitled movie begin in the coming months.
