Rumours continue to persist that 20th Century Fox’s New Mutants will fail to meet its planned August 2019 release date. Furthermore the press continue to speculate the movie will never make it to theatres, instead opting for a release via digital platforms.
We previously told you of rumours that the movie was heading for a release on Hulu. A streaming service part owned by both Fox and Disney. The rumours made sense at the time given the two studios are merging.
Now a rumour from THR believes it is more likely the much delayed movie may release via the new, upcoming, Disney+ streaming platform.
The good news?
The trade believes the movie is very much still in the hands of original director Josh Boone.
WHAT HAPPENING WITH NEW MUTANTS? It’s easy to forget, but, Dark Phoenix is not technically Fox’s last X-Men movie. The studio has director Josh Boone’s New Mutants dated for Aug. 2. The film was supposed to open in April 2018 … and then it was pushed to February 2019, only to be pushed back again to August. Will it ever see the light of day under the Disney regime? (Likely yes.) Will it make it to theatres? (Umm…) Well, will it at least make it to Disney+ (Sounds like a safe bet.) But it still has reshoots to do, right? (None planned so far but things seem to be in the hands of Boone, say sources.)
Whilst we wait for more news on New Mutants checkout the teaser trailer in the player below.
New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga, and Alice Braga. The film is directed by Josh Boone from a screenplay by Boone and Knate Lee. Production credits go to Simon Kinberg, Lauren Schuler Donner and Karen Rosenfelt.
New Mutants now hits cinemas February 22, 2019.
