For fans of Marvel’s Netflix shows the last few weeks has been rather tumultuous. First came news that Iron Fist had been cancelled following its second season. Subsequently the axe also fell on Luke Cage and even Daredevil.
With only Jessica Jones and The Punisher remaining many have been looking to Disney to save the day.
We’ve heard plenty about internal politics between Netflix, Marvel TV and Disney. Rumours have pointed to clauses in the Netflix deal saying characters are now off limits for two years to ensure Marvel can’t capitalise on their popularity.
But now a brief interview snippet with new Disney Chief Kevin Mayer may give some hope. Mayer was recently appointed Chairman of Walt Disney’s direct-to-consumer and international division. As part of his role he will be overseeing the new Disney+ streaming service.
During an interview with THR Mayer was asked about the possibility of the Netflix characters migrating to Disney+. Surprisingly his response was vaguely hopeful.
“They are very high-quality shows,” he noted. “We haven’t yet discussed that, but I would say that’s a possibility.”
Could we be a step closer to seeing more of Daredevil, Luke Cage and Iron Fist?
